Mr. Stoken

Norman Stoken, 94, died peacefully in his sleep April 23, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Naomi. He is survived by his son Ben and wife Lisa of Prescott; daughter Anne of Niles, Ill.; grandson Joe and wife Dorna of Aptos, Calif.; granddaughter Heather of Portland, Ore.; and his great granddaughter Natasha.

Norman fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was with troops who liberated concentration camps during World War II. After the war, he returned to his hometown Chicago and married Naomi. Together they enjoyed ballroom dancing and competitive Scrabble. After retiring and moving to Prescott in 1978, Norm spent many hours volunteering in local organizations.

Norm and his wife organized the Prescott Litter Lifters in 1981. They were founding members of Temple B'rith Shalom. They adopted a section of Highway 169 as volunteers with the state highway department's roads cleanup program.

Norm enjoyed being outdoors hiking with the Prescott Outings Club for many years. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and was especially proud of his great granddaughter. Family members are thankful for the many happy years they enjoyed with him.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Temple B'rith Shalom, 2077 Brohner Way, Prescott. The family suggests donations be made to Temple B'rith Shalom or Prescott Litter Lifters, 1979 Sherwood Drive Prescott, AZ 86303.
