Gertrude H. Armitage died April 7, 2009, at Prescott Samaritan Village, Prescott, Ariz. She was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Gloucester, Mass. She was the daughter of Augusta and the Rev. Karl P. Henrikson.
She and her husband, Charles, moved to Prescott, Ariz., from Amsterdam, N.Y., in 1978.
She was a member of the Prescott United Methodist Church, Sharlot Hall Historical Society and the Prescott Outings Club.
Subsequent to certification by the Carnegie Library School, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pa., she served in public, hospital, medical and U.S. Army libraries in Massachusetts, New York State, Hawaii and the Philippines; as Executive Librarian with Sixth and Eighth Armies in Japan; as a librarian with Time magazine; and Director of U.S.I.S. Library in Helsinki, Finland.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles, sister Ruth Penn and brother LCdr. Theodore P. Henrikson, U.S.N. Ret. She is survived by her nieces, Patricia Hassett of Dennis, Mass., and Rachel Helen Lambardi of Brockton, Mass.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Prescott Samaritan Village Chapel, 1030 Scott Drive, Prescott, Ariz. Pastor Carol Mumford, Prescott United Methodist Church, will officiate.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to a library or charity of their choice.
