The recent Prescott Fall Classic annual fencing tournament attracted 82 fencers from Las Vegas, Tucson, Flagstaff, Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and several clubs in the Valley.
The tournament included 10 total events in all three fencing weapons: foil, epee, and sabre. Sixteen local fencers competed, and 10 received medals in this, the largest tournament held this year in the Arizona Division.
Michael Fenech won a gold medal in Open Mixed Epee, featuring 36 competitors. Gold also went to Joshua Bodine, Garrett Crooks and Colter McCarty in Team Epee.
Bronze medals went to Joshua Gade (Youth Foil, 12 and under), Daniel Gade (Youth Foil, 14 and under), Fenech (Junior Foil, 19 and under), Dmitri Brown (Junior Epee, 19 and under), Hans Miles (Open Mixed Epee) and the Team Epee group of Fenech, Miles, Philipp Siegel and George Standing-Bear.
Additionally, Fenech earned his "A" rating in Epee for the current year. Brown, previously unrated, earned his "C" rating in Epee, and Ehren Falk, previously unrated, earned his "E" rating in Foil.
Dan DeChaine, an internationally known armorer, and a member of the USFA Hall of Fame, served as tournament armorer to insure all weapons, masks and other tournament equipment passed inspection.
