Obituary: Harold George Mong
Harold George Mong passed away on Aug. 27, 2008, at the Bob Stump VA Medical Center in Prescott, Ariz. He was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Wadsworth, Ohio. He was a widower. He was living with his daughter Carole L. (Mong) Thurman who resides in Prescott Valley, Ariz.
Harold was a retired tire builder from Seiberling/Firestone/Bridgestone Tire & Rubber Company of Barberton, Ohio. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps who was an airplane and engine mechanic. He received three awards from the Army: the American Theatre Ribbon, The World War II Victory Medal and The Good Conduct Award.
Harold grew up in the Wadsworth/Rittman and Medina, Ohio, area. He was a former member of the Moose and Elks Lodges of Barberton, Ohio. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. Harold is now with the Lord up in heaven and his beloved wife Irene.
Harold was married to Irene Ruth (Horvath) Mong for 56 years. Irene passed on Aug. 30, 2000. He is survived by his two daughters, Carole L. (Mong) Thurman of Prescott Valley and Linda J. (Mong) Stackhouse of Euclid, Ohio. His surviving grandsons are Benjamin Lee Thurman of Paulden, Ariz., Carl Spataro of Amherst, Ohio, and Stephen Spataro of Tallmadge, Ohio. Surviving great-grandchildren are Nicholas Thurman of Akron, Ohio, Michael, Melissa and Madison of Amherst, Ohio, Taylor and Jacob of Tallmadge, Ohio.
Memorial and Graveside services in honor of Harold will be at Lakewood Cemetery, 1080 W. Waterloo Road, Akron, Ohio, at a later date.
