Editorial: Drivers must stop for school buses stopped on Highway 89
School in Chino Valley has been back in session for nearly a month now and drivers are at it again. They've forgotten that they're supposed to stop on BOTH SIDES of Highway 89 when a school bus is stopped with its lights flashing and its stop arm sign out to pick up or drop off students.
Does this sound vaguely familiar? Yes, you could get ticketed for not stopping. It's the law and it's there for the safety of children, especially on a dangerous road like Highway 89. Paulden saw a head-on crash Friday. The highway is definitely not like one of our quiet back roads in Chino or Paulden.
Yes, the highway construction is a distraction for us drivers. We also have to be aware of road crews, especially the ones working near the road.
Slow down and stay alert on the highway, please.
