The Prescott Badgers are champions of the Western Sky Region. Again. And again.
The Badgers made it three straight titles and locked up a berth in the 4A-I state playoffs with a resounding 41-10 win over O'Connor Friday night in Goodyear.
Now 4-0 in the region, no one can catch the Badgers heading into next week's season finale. Even an unlikely loss at home against Independence (1-8, 1-3) wouldn't cancel the crown for Prescott, which improved to a perfect 4-0 in the Western Sky.
Brian Scates followed up his record-breaking performance last week with two rushing touchdowns Friday night, giving him seven in two games. Joey Mancha opened the scoring for Prescott with a 17-yard TD run in the first period and the rout was on.
Scates added a 13-yard scamper before Jake Jarvis ran in from 68 yards out for the first of his two scores on the night.
By the time Scates added his second of the half, a seven-yard run with 4:25 left in the second quarter, Prescott coasted into halftime comfortably ahead 27-0.
The defense also stepped up. Todd Lockwood pounced on a fumbled punt snap attempt in the end zone for a second-half touchdown. Nick Randall finished with 2 1/2 sacks, plus 10 tackles. Jordan Pruzina racked up eight tackles.
As a team, Prescott was whistled for just three penalties throughout.
Jarvis tallied 129 yards rushing on 10 carries, plus his two touchdowns.
The Badgers look to add to their five-game winning streak in the season finale next week. Prescott (6-3, 4-0) hosts Independence at Bill Shepard Field.
