Henry G. Hellman Sr., 87, died Oct. 17, 2008, at his home in Humboldt, surrounded by his loving family and in the arms of his loving wife of 62 years.

Henry was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Holly, Colo., and moved with his family

to Phoenix, Ariz., in the spring of 1926 at the age of four. He attended Phoenix-area schools and graduated from Glendale High School in 1939. He joined the Arizona National Guard after high school and participated in World War II as a member of the "Arizona Bushmasters." He is one of the last surviving members of the famed jungle fighters.

Henry married Cecelia O. Stone on April 27, 1946, in Phoenix. He was a prominent

dairy farmer in the Phoenix area until moving with his family to Humboldt in the spring of 1963.

Henry is survived by his wife, Cecelia, and their nine children, RoseMarie (Al) Atencio of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Henry G III (Yvonne) of Humboldt; Sr. Mary F. Hellman of Guatemala City, Guatemala, SA; Robert A. (Trisha) of Mesa, Ariz.; Larry D. (Patricia) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Kent R. (Kathy) of Cottonwood, Ariz.; Richard B. (Winona) of La Center, Wash.; Andrew B. (Julie) of Humboldt; and Marian C. (Sean) Finley of Tucson, Ariz.

He was deeply loved, highly respected and will be greatly missed by his 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Henry served his community in many ways but most notably as Justice of the Peace of the Mayer Precinct for 16 years. He was a founding member of the United Dairymen of Arizona in the 1950s in Phoenix and he served on the Board of Directors for the Central Yavapai Fire District in Prescott Valley. He was involved for many years with numerous charitable and civic groups in Yavapai County.

Henry's passing will be remembered and his life honored by a visitation and rosary

on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home, 8167 E. Hwy 69, Prescott Valley, Ariz., with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. There will be a funeral

mass held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 7997 E. Dana Dr., Prescott Valley, AZ. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Heritage Memorial Park in Dewey, Ariz.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's name to Hospice Family Care, 100 E. Sheldon Street, Ste. 100, Prescott, AZ 86301, or to Sr. Mary Faye Hellman's School for Mayan Girls, c/o Cecelia or Sr. Mary Faye Hellman.
