Letter: Nov. 5 editorial was last straw for reader
Only because it comes as no surprise, your Nov. 5 editorial was almost (if not absolutely) the last straw.
Your ill-conceived editorial addressing Mr. Obama's election was reactionary, divisive and inaccurate. And at least two of your concerns with a "liberal" (dirty word) Obama administration are outright lies.
First, President-elect Obama does not advocate tax increases going to "the 40 percent of Americans who don't pay taxes."
He advocates tax cuts for 95 percent of the U.S. population who earn less than $250,000/year. As Mr. Kristoff says in his op-ed article in the Nov. 6 New York Times, "Mr. Obama's election may also be a political milestone, ending an era in which Republicans succeeded at winning votes from the working poor to cut taxes for billionaires."
Second, Obama does not advocate a "government-dominated health care system." He simply advocates health care financing that covers all Americans, a plan that certainly does not require government administration of health care.
At a time when we sorely need a united country, your newspaper's inability to publish balanced and thoughtful editorials is a disgrace.
