Obituary: Fred A. Merker
After battling many illnesses, Fred went home to our Lord on Oct. 10, 2008. He was born on June 18, 1923, in Chicago, Ill.
Fred moved to Ariz. after retiring in 1985. He proudly served in the Army/Air Corps., WWII and was an electrician for Local 701. Fred never knew a stranger and was loved by many. He will be remembered for his strong character traits - his handshake was as good as any legal document.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Lynn and daughter Sharon. Fred is survived by his daughters, Janice Merker, Judy Rutherford (Tom) and Gale Markham; seven grandchildren, Kim Marty, Ken Leisering, Heather Mueller, Jamie Mueller, Gale Perez, Karen Elmore, Clay Markham; and nine great grandchildren.
To say he was a hard worker is an understatement but he knew how to enjoy life, too. His hobbies were hunting and fishing in his earlier years and he was a master worker. He loved people and food, too. He spoke fondly of Lynn's baking and cooking until the end. He left our world a better place - what better legacy can we ask?
A Celebration of Life service will be on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2110 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, Ariz. Gifts/donations welcomed in his name for the furtherance of a cure for Macular Degeneration or Diabetic Research.
