Motorcyclist crashes on 89A
A 65-year-old Phoenix-area man apparently escaped serious injury after crashing his motorcycle down a 60-foot embankment along Highway 89A on Mingus Mountain Sunday morning.
Central Yavapai Fire District officials say the man, who was part of a large riding group from Phoenix, reportedly missed a sharp turn on 89A and became airborne before crashing at the bottom of the embankment.
The accident occurred at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, at Highway 89A's milepost 335 - about halfway up Mingus Mountain on the Prescott side.
CYFD Battalion Chief Dean Steward reported that fire and ambulance crews treated the man at the scene and then took him to Yavapai Regional Medical Center's East Campus in Prescott Valley.
Fire officials describe the man's injuries as "non-life-threatening."
CYFD Capt. Joe Kelley noted that the man was wearing full protective riding gear, including a helmet.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety continued to investigate the cause of the accident Sunday.
