More summer activities for children in Chino Valley

• The SELF Club, a partnership between the town and the Chino Valley Unified School District that primarily takes place at the town library at 1020 W. Palomino Road on Fridays during June and July.

"They have activities at the library in the morning and then recreation does some of the fun activities in the park," Chino Valley Parks and Recreation aquatic center director Jason Kelly said.

• The Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon - a biking and running event now in its second year that features youth, adult and team divisions - July 13 at Community Center Park, 1615 N. Road 1 East.

The bike route starts at the Community Center before heading out to Old Home Manor off Perkinsville Road, while the run route travels north on Road 1 East. Both routes eventually return to the park.

Highly conditioned athletes and recreational athletes take part in the longer event. The youth event is a shorter distance to encourage participation from those with various abilities.

"We had about 150 participants last year," Kelly said. "The whole operation is in and out of here in seven hours. It's a phenomenal event, and it brings money to the community."

• Swimming at the outdoor pool at Community Center Park. The Aquatic Center began its fourth season May 24, one that will last through Aug. 31.

Season pool passes to the Aquatic Center are $130 per family, $80 per adult and $50 per child 10 years old and up, although a 30 percent discount on the passes is available until Saturday.

Daily fees are $7 per family, $2.50 per adult and $1.50 for children ages 4 to 17. Youngsters ages 3 and under are free.

The Aquatic Center offers aqua fit, sport conditioning, swimming lessons, and adult, therapy and lap swimming.

In addition, the pool sponsors Saturday Fun Days every Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.; the Family Dive-In Movie June 6 and 27 from 8 to 10 p.m.; and "Disco Returns" June 13 from 8 to 10 p.m., among other specialized events.
