Architects garner design award for new library

The architects for the new Prescott Valley Public Library, richard+bauer from Phoenix, earned first place in the On the Boards category for their design of the new Prescott Valley Library.

The International Interior Design Association and the American Library Association announced the winners this past month of the second Library Interior Design Competition that honors excellence in library interior design, incorporating aesthetics, design creativity, function and satisfaction of the client's objectives. Competition came from projects throughout North America.

The jury loved the design, said Kelly Bauer, principal architect.

"First place! The WOW factor for Prescott Valley - and the jury saw it loud and clear," Bauer said in an e-mail to PV Library Director Stuart Mattson.

The firm also won a first place in the Public Libraries: 30,000-square-foot and smaller category for its design of the Arabian Public Library in Scottsdale.

Winners will be featured in an upcoming issue of Contract Magazine, the publishing partner for the competition. Winners will also be honored, and the "Best of Show" announced, at the ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards Reception on July 1, 2008 during the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim.
