Phippen Museum hosts 34th annual Western Art Show
The Phippen Museum's 34th annual Western Art Show and Sale will be Saturday through Monday on the courthouse plaza.
Event hours are Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
The Phippen Museum Western Art Show and Sale will feature over 150 artists in booths surrounding the courthouse. The event features art of the American West in oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, pastels, sculpture and drawing.
In addition to the show and sale, the Phippen Museum plans a number of other events, including two "Quick Draw" art demonstrations where professional artists create a work of art in only 45 minutes on the courthouse steps. Sponsors then will auction off the artwork to the crowd in attendance.
The "Quick Draw" takes place at 2 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse both Saturday and Sunday.
Evening events on Saturday will include the Denim to Diamonds Dinner, Live Art Auction and Awards Ceremony at the Prescott Resort.
All of the art is on the museum website, www.phippenartmuseum.org.
The festivities begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for the Gala are available through the museum's website or by calling the museum at 778-1385.
The museum has moved the Miniature Masterpiece Show and Sale from a tent on the plaza to the Phippen's Community Cultural Hall. During Memorial Day weekend, people may use a free shuttle bus that runs from the Phippen Museum down to the courthouse plaza and back all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The actual sale by draw will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at the Phippen Museum.
The Phippen Docents and the Frame and I will offer art activities at the Gazebo on the courthouse plaza throughout the weekend for youngsters. Kids can decorate cowboy boots, create western style greeting cards or join a young artists drawing competition on Sunday judged by some of the artists in the show.
Children 8 and older may sign up at the Phippen Museum information booth throughout the weekend to participate in these activities. Space is limited. The cost is $5 per child.
