Local lady celebrates 100th birthday
Emma Watson celebrated her 100th birthday on May 4, 2008. Her church family honored her on April 26 with a program of "Memories of Emma's Life." Her grandson, Jim, gave a history of his grandmother's life as told to him by her and his experiences growing up with her. Her daughter, Judy, told about life with Emma traveling across the United States 17 times to be with dad, who served in the military for 30 years. Emma was an LPN and never missed a day of work and was never tardy.
Friends from the church and community remembered Emma as the "bread lady" because she would fill her truck full of day-old bread from the grocery story and drive around town giving it to those in need. The "grown" children remembered Emma going down Slide Rock at Oak Creek Canyon in 1991 and getting a standing ovation from the college students.
Emma received plaques, awards and treasures from the friends who gathered to honor her. She has served her church, her community and her God during her long life. She was married to the same man for 60 years and raised five children. Emma has lived in the same house for 38 years and is still making baby quilts for the families in her church and the community. She is a very lovely and interesting person and it is an honor to know her and to share her precious life.
