Child of the Week, May 2
Bryce says simply that he would like to be "a man" when he grows up. A kindergartner, he is learning to cope with the challenges of having mild autism and ADHD. He has an attentive and loving mom, aunt and grandma, but doesn't get to spend as much time with his dad. Waiting more than six months for a Big Brother, Bryce needs a Big who can commit to spending quality time with him teaching him how to be a man.
An animal lover, Bryce's family has a lively, chocolate-colored Labrador that he named Nestle Coco-Puff. Bryce adores elephants and other exotic animals exhibited in zoos. This 6-year-old also is fond of desert critters such as snakes and spiders.
Bryce is an inquisitive boy, and enjoys doing challenging activities such as playing video games and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. Sensory activities such as playing in sandboxes and with clay also capture his attention. He prefers science fiction and fantasy-themed movies over any other genre.
Because he doesn't have a grandfather in his life, Bryce adoringly calls any man with gray hair "Poppy." His ideal Big would be someone with grandfatherly characteristics who could meet with him weekly and be a constant positive presence in his life. Bryce enjoys being outside and would like a Big Brother to play catch with, take the dog for a walk and do other "one-on-one guy stuff together," as his mom puts it.
