Yavapai Meals on Wheels is participating in the 2008 March of Meals national campaign.
March of Meals commemorates the enactment of the laws to include senior meal programs in the Older Americans Act.
YMOW senior centers in Black Canyon City, Mayer, Prescott Valley and Yarnell will participate in the March for Meals campaign on March 19.
County Supervisor Tom Thurman will attend the Black Canyon Senior Center event. Prescott Valley Mayor Harvey Skoog, who will participate for the second year in a row, will visit the CASA Senior Center in Prescott Valley. Also participating will be the Mayer firefighters in Mayer and the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department in Yarnell.
Nationwide, the Elderly Nutrition Program serves 3.1 million elderly participants. In 2007, YMOW and its four centers provided 95,179 in-center and home-delivered meals. These meals provide at least one-third of the FDA-recommended daily dietary allowance.
To continue to serve its 16 communities with meals, YMOW is asking for community support.
YMOW officials are asking community members to join them Wednesday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m. for Meals on Wheels public awareness events at the four senior sites:
Black Canyon City - St. Philip Benize Church, (623) 374-5004;
Mayer - 10051 Miami, (928) 632-7511;
Prescott Valley - 9360 Manzanita Circle, (928) 772-8404;
