Tim's Toyota purchases local Subaru franchise
PRESCOTT - Tim's Toyota has bought the Subaru franchise a month after Prescott car dealer Ted Lamb terminated his franchise.
Mike Dennis, general manager at Tim's, said owner Tim Coury bought the Subaru franchise to increase the diversity of vehicles for sale at the main lot at 3250 Willow Creek Road. Lamb Subaru was located at 828 Gail Gardner Way.
"We knew there were already a lot of Subaru owners in town, and we know they are very brand-loyal," Dennis said. "We want to continue the Subaru brand name."
Dennis said the Subaru addition "truly makes Tim's the super auto center" for the tri-city area. Tim's also carries Buick, Pontiac, GMC and Hyundai.
Tim's Toyota also recruited salespeople who formerly worked for Lamb Subaru, and a total of 10 sales staffers will handle the Subaru fleet, Dennis said. Fifty Subaru models from 2008 and 2009 arrived on the lot.
Subaru rolls out models that include Outback, Forester, Legacy and Tribeca.
Tim's also provided training for two technicians to work on Subarus, Dennis said.
While Dennis is optimistic about Subaru, Lamb told The Daily Courier in late May that Subaru did not support itself as a stand-alone franchise. "I thought I could make Subaru profitable, and I thought I could find another franchise such as Volkswagen that would be willing to come to Prescott that's not here today," Lamb told The Courier. "I was unable to do that."
Officials at Subaru's Southwest Region office in Aurora, Colo., were unavailable for comment. Jane Bristol, economic development director, commented, "Obviously, we are thrilled that a dealership is going to stay within the city limits. We are sure that the dealership will do very well at that location."
