PRESCOTTTiny Tot Olympics and Diaper Derby - The Recreation Division will hold this event Saturday, Aug. 16, at Granite Creek Park, open to children 4 years old and younger. Kiddie Olympians will compete with others within their own age group, with medals awarded to top three finishers in each event. Events include the 40-foot run (2-year-olds), 60-foot run (3-year-olds), 80-foot run (4-year-olds), long jump (2- and 3-year-olds), baseball pitch, soccer ball kick, football throw and basketball hoop shoot. Cost to enter is $10 per Olympian for up to three events. The Diaper Derby is a crawling event and costs $5. Olympians and Diaper Derby contestants receive a T-shirt (or onesie), snack, and goodie bag with registration. Contestants age 50 and older will compete in more than 30 events including volleyball, equestrian events, shooting, Scrabble, table tennis, badminton, bocce ball, basketball, poker, and powerlifting. PRESCOTT VALLEYWilderness Survival Skill/Orienteering Workshop - Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation presents a free workshop to help participants gain map and compass reading skills. Knowing where you are or how to find your location will mean that never again will you pack fear into your backpack. The workshop includes a GPS study presentation as well as instruction on how to find water and identify edible plants. The workshop is for ages 18 and older and is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, in room 331 of the Civic Center. Register at the Parks office, fourth floor of the Civic Center, 7501 E. Call 759-3090.Public Meeting for Prescott Valley YMCA - The Town of Prescott Valley will hold a meeting to gather public interest or feedback regarding a proposed YMCA facility within the town limits. The meeting is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in Civic Center room 331, Thursday, July 31. Call 759-3100.Recreation Fall Softball League - Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation is signing up teams for men/women in the 12-inch ball category and coed 12 to 14-inch diameter category. Games start Aug. 4 at Mountain Valley Park. Cost is $180. At least four teams are needed to start any league. A maximum of 32 is allowed for the men's Friday night league. Evening Yoga - Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation will offer Yoga classes from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays in August at Bradshaw Mountain High School east campus in the band room. Johnson will discuss what to bring in your pack, safety, maps, survival kits and water purification tools, as well as tents and sleeping on the ground.
