Obituary: Bernard Franklin Miller
Our 'Papa' was born in Phoenix to Nina and Raymond Miller, the youngest of three boys. His father died when he was just 2 years old.
After running around the city as kids the small family moved to Prescott. Although they also lived in Sweetwater, Texas, for a time, Bernie always called Prescott "home." There are endless stories about the trouble he, his brothers and his best friends the Steinmetz boys got into in his little hometown.
After brief service in the Air Force, he married his longtime sweetheart and best friend's sister, Catherine Steinmetz on July 1, 1965, at Prescott's downtown courthouse. The couple also lived in Jerome, Ariz., before it was a tourist town and Portland, Ore., where it was greener than either had ever seen. Their family kept growing and they always ended back near their hometown. His six grown children, Kim, Leslie, Matt, Haley, Jed and Tessa, learned the love of outdoors, mechanics, history and pickles from their loving father. The stories and jokes he was so good at telling will be fondly remembered and retold to his 15 grandchildren and coming great-grandchild.
Having lived out his final years in Chino Valley, Ariz., he faded away at the age of 64 a few days short of his 44th wedding anniversary. A happy life and a loving family never expected to be left so soon. Always loved, and so missed by everyone. Although returned to dust, he is still "...worth more than many sparrows." - Matt.10:29-31.
