Mountain Artist Gallery presents two new shows through April
PRESCOTT - A new exhibit challenges artists to break out of their comfort zones.
"Daring Designs," a collection of work from about 100 artists, runs through April 5 at the Mountain Artist Gallery at 228 N. Alarcon St.
"We want them to be more creative and go beyond their abilities," said Marlene Slayton, gallery art director.
For the show, Slayton said the show designers encouraged artists "to grow, to get some unusual still-lifes and landscapes, to go just outside the envelope."
The show features paintings, jewelry, woodcrafts, hand-blown glass and ceramics.
Slayton said the artists are all from the local area with a few from Scottsdale and Jerome.
"We have some wonderful silversmiths who do some great silver; and we have some fabric artists who do hand-painted silk scarves," she said.
A separate show, "Art Escape '08," opens on Saturday in the Ritter Room, featuring work from 26 artists in media including jewelry, pottery, painting and mosaic.
This show runs through Feb. 14. The gallery will host an opening reception for these shows from 5 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 25.
