The United States Navy Band performs 7:30 p.m. Monday night in Prescott High School's Ruth Street Theater.

The 65-member concert band from Washington, D.C., is scheduled to perform selections that include Dmitri Shostakovich's "Festive Overture"; "Celebration of Swing," a vibraphone feature that includes Melvin Oliver, Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton pieces; Gershwin's "Summertime"; and "Four Scottish Dances," inspired by Scottish country folk tunes and dances.

"They're the best bands in the country because they've played together for 20 years," said John Hafer, veteran performer with the United States Air Force Band and military band promoter.

"You gotta be a top musician, college degree, masters degree in music to get in the band to begin with," he added.

Hafer has brought six service bands to Prescott since 1995, and is currently working on bringing the U.S. Marine Band to the area, he said.

Military band concerts are free depending on ticket availability.

Call Hafer for ticket information at 928-776-9137.
