50th anniversary: Thomas and Rose Martinez
Love at first sight is what Tom said when he first saw Rose 51 years ago.
Thomas A. Martinez and Rose Birru Martinez will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15, 2008.
They met in April of 1957 in Montebello, Calif., where Rose lived. Tom was a resident of Phoenix on vacation with his family. He went to a party and met Rose. They were married nine months later and began their new lives in Phoenix. Tom retired from the Maricopa City Highway Department after 32 years of service. Rose was employed with the motor vehicle department in Phoenix and in Prescott. She retired after 19 years. They moved to Prescott Valley in February 1996.
Tom and Rose were blessed with five children, Pia Barron, Maggie Pena (Roy), Isabelle Mendez (Patrick) and Annette Hyde (Michael) and their son Thomas who is with them in spirit, and his wife Ramona; and with 12 grandchildren, whom they adore.
They will renew their vows on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at St. Germaine's Catholic Church. A dinner will be given in their honor at the home of their daughter, Maggie. Pray for us as we continue our journey with Christ as our center.
