Accidents cause traffic snarls in Prescott
Police still were directing north and south traffic through only one lane on Highway 89 near Liberty Lane in Granite Dells at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after a late afternoon accident that sent one woman to Flagstaff Medical Center. Prescott police said they received a report of a single-vehicle accident at that spot at about 4 p.m. They said a 64-year-old woman was trapped inside her heavily damaged vehicle after it rolled onto its top.
A helicopter landed at about 4:40 p.m. and flew the woman to Flagstaff.
Right after the accident, police were asking southbound motorists on Highway 89 to get off at Willow Creek Road and northbound motorists to divert onto Willow Lake Road at the roundabout. Police still were on the scene at 8:30 p.m. and were directing traffic through one open lane.
The Department of Public Safety also reported another accident further north on Highway 89 near Drake at 6 p.m. in which two vehicles collided with injuries to occupants.
