Prescott schools on schedule; winter storm alert in effect

SCHOOLS

The Prescott Unified School District is on schedule today, Dec. 18, 2008.

The Daily Courier has not received any closures or delays, as of 6:30 a.m.

ROADS

On Highway 89, north and south from mile post 345.70 (14.40 miles north of Chino Valley) to mile post 363.80 (at Interstate 40) the Arizona Department of Transportation has issued a Winter Storm Alert.

Also, on I-40, east and west from mile post 150.0 (3.80 miles east of Highway 89) to mile post 214.0 (2.80 miles east of Winona) ADOT reports snow or ice on the roadway.

WEATHER

According to the National Weather Service...

Today: Snow likely, mainly before 11 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Southwest winds between 13 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. South winds between 3 and 9 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 42. South winds between 6 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow before 11 p.m., then a slight chance of rain. Snow level 6,300 feet. Partly cloudy, with a low around 23. South southwest winds between 6 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10 percent.
