Christmas Countdown: Events in the Prescott area

This weekend residents and visitors can participate in many Christmas events in the area.

American Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1085 Scott Dr. in Prescott will conduct Christmas Choral Vespers from 6 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 445-4348.

Danny Anderson's Family Christmas Show is today at 7:30 p.m. in the Yavapai College Performance Hall at 1100 E. Sheldon St. in Prescott. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 16. For more information, call 776-2000.

Santa Claus will be stopping at various stores in Downtown Prescott from today from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday children of all ages can participate in Prescott Resort & Conference Center's Gingerbread man cookie decorating activity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The resort's 16th annual Gingerbread Village remains open through Sunday, Dec. 28.

The Patti Bell, Family & Friends Christmas Show is on this weekend at The Ridge Club at 6200 N. Highway 69 in Prescott. The $20 fee includes dinner, dancing and the Christmas show. The shows are set for Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 776-2600.

This Sunday and next Sunday, the public can skate at Tim's Toyota Center from 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $2 for children 12 and under and $4 for skaters 13 and up. Enjoy stories by the fireplace with Santa at Story Time With Santa at Prescott Quality Inn & Suites at 4499 Highway 69 in Prescott Sunday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call 777-0770.

A German Christmas service is Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Shepherd Of The Hills Lutheran Church at 1202 Green Lane in Prescott. A social hour will follow the German Christmas worship service. For more information, call 778-9122.

Prescott Gateway Mall has the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program going on through Tuesday. Holiday Angel trees are located in front of Barnes & Noble. The Salvation Army decorates the trees with numbered paper angel tags with the child's first name, age and gender. People can remove one or more tags from the tree and buy appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags. The Salvation Army will deliver the presents during Christmas week.

Two churches plan Christmas Eve services. The First Baptist Church at 148 Marina St. in Prescott will conduct its Christmas Eve services at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The First Congregational Church at 216 E. Gurley St. in Prescott will have its Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Don't Spend Christmas Alone dinner will be Christmas Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 2000 Shepherd's Lane in Prescott. For transportation or home delivery for the homebound in the tri-city area, call 778-4499.

The Arizona Revue ¬ Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree is Friday, Dec. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Elks Opera House at 117 E. Gurley St. in Prescott. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children. For more information, call 830-7784.

Valley of Lights is open from 6 p.m. to midnight daily through Dec. 30, in Fain Park between Second and Fifth streets in Prescott Valley. The Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce asks people to give a freewill donation. Follow the signs off Highway 69. For more information, call 772-8857.

The 35-foot Tree of Joy and Song performs nightly in Prescott Valley's Entertainment District through Dec. 30. It will perform on the half hour and hour from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Wild Lights & Animal Sights is at Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary at 1403 Heritage Park Rd. in Prescott from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night through Jan. 2 and 3. Refreshments of cocoa, tea, coffee, and more are available. Admission is $3 for members and $5 for non-members.
