Highway 69 crash sends two to hospital
A head-on collision of two SUVs on Highway 69 near Diamond Drive sent both drivers to local hospitals Wednesday morning.
Emergency personnel took the drivers - a man and a woman - by ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center West and YRMC East, said Charlie Cook, spokesman for Central Yavapai Fire District, which responded to the scene along with Prescott Fire Department.
The head-on collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m. and slowed traffic on Highway 69 briefly, Cook said.
The injured drivers live in the area, Cook said, but he had no further information on them.
The collision heavily damaged both SUVs and set off airbags in both vehicles, witnesses said.
The accident was one of several that kept area emergency personnel busy all afternoon long.
"Our emergency room is certainly busy on this campus and also on the East campus in Prescott Valley," YRMC Spokeswoman Robbie Nicol said in an e-mail Wednesday evening. "But our staff and physicians that are here are able to handle all the patients so we haven't called an 'Operation Mercy,' which is our term for a high alert level that may entail calling in extra staff and additional physicians."
