Marie and Dave Newman met in 1946, when they were stationed at Camp Stoneman, Calif.
They were married on Aug. 25, 1948, in Lexington, where they attended U. of Kentucky.
After graduation in 1951, Dave embarked on a 33-year career with the Navy R&D Labs which led them to Cleveland, Ohio, China Lake, Huntington Beach and San Diego, Calif., Lualualei, Hawaii, and McLean, Va.
Marie was a swimming instructor as well as teaching at elementary schools in Kern and Orange counties in California. In San Diego, they enjoyed sailing and frequently visited Santa Catalina Island and coastal ports with cruisers from the San Diego Yacht Club. Their home golf course was the famous Torrey Pines, where they played regularly for 20 years. They moved to Prescott in 1991 to play golf at Antelope Hills. Marie was also a tennis player at the Prescott Racquet Club for a number of years.
Joining in the 60th celebration is their daughter Donna Grossi and husband, Pat; nephew Garry Haskell and his wife, Marilyn, all of Prescott; children, David and Connie, of Eugene, Ore.; plus eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two greyhounds.
In September, they will be met in Portland by the Oregon families for a Bon Voyage dinner before departing on an eight-day anniversary cruise on the Columbia and Snake rivers.
