Marianne Dissard brings sultry music en francais to the Raven
"Sultry, smoky, beautiful and sad" is how the Tucson Weekly describes Marianne Dissard, who will sing her French lyrics with music written by Naim Amor and Joey Burns of Calexico at the Raven Café on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Her debut comes out next month, produced by Burns, with musician credits including Rob Burger (Tin Hat Trio, Laurie Anderson), John Convertino (Calexico), Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson) and other Tucson collaborators.
Accompanying Dissard is Will Elliott, winner of Tucson Weekly's Critics Choice Award for Best Songwriter in 2006, along with guitarist Clay Koweek and Arthur Vint on drums.
Arthur and Clay will also play for Elliot for a set of his music.
Elliot's music as been described as "too traditional to fall into the freak-folk camp, but just a bit too oddball to be considered traditional folk."
Music starts at 8 p.m.
