Prescott swimmers continue tradition at Verde Valley

The Prescott Pirates Swim Team competed in the 27th Annual Verde Valley Invitational, hosted recently by the Cottonwood Clippers Swim Team.

More than 275 swimmers participated in the better than 800 events. Eight PST Pirates swam 23 events, earning 18 top finishes and 12 personal best times.

Daniel Schleicher, 14, won the first place boys 13-14 High Point Award with first place finishes in the 50 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly. Erik Haynes, 14, won the second place boys 13-14 High Point Award by placing first in the 50 Breaststroke, second in the 50 Freestyle and third in the 50 Backstroke.

Autumn Sierra, 12, improved in all of her events, taking second in the 100 Freestyle, third in the 50 Butterfly and third in the 50 Freestyle. Kurtis Haynes, 18, placed third in the men's 100 Freestyle and recorded top finishes in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke.

Matt Kendrick, 16, swam personal bests in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke. Tiffany Riviere, 11, won three top finishes in the 50 Freestyle, 50 Butterfly and 100 Freestyle. Sarah Riviere, 16, swam personal bests in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly.

Jessie Adams, 14, swam in her first competitive meet in the 50 Freestyle and 50 Backstroke, assisting the experienced Pirates in the Medley Relays.

PST is accepting 2009 registrations which begins Sept. 1, 2008 and runs through Dec. 31, 2009. The team will be participating in the Central Arizona Fall League which starts in September and includes four meets plus a championship meet. Interested swimmers must be 6-18 years old and contact the coach or team registrar for skill assessment and team placement.
