Today's teenagers face many challenges and choices.Approximately 100 individuals representing various agencies, schools, churches, businesses and community organizations want local teens to have the information they need to make the choices that will determine their life stories, so they set up the Teen Maze at the Prescott Activity Center.
PRESCOTT VALLEY - Housing development has paved the way for eventual completion of a flood control channel that diverts storm runoff from Glassford Hill.Yavapai County and Prescott Valley officials cooperated on the Glassford Hill Interceptor Channel, paying for it with a countywide flood control tax of 17 cents per $1,000 in assessed value.

PRESCOTT - The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin construction in June on improvements to Highway 89 from Center Street in Chino Valley to approximately one mile south of Road 4 South.According to a press release from ADOT, the improvements are necessary to increase the capacity of the highway and provide better access to and from businesses along the route.

A local fire marshal warned the public to be extra cautious with flames after two local residents accidentally ignited wildfires Wednesday.One person started a wildfire north of Prescott Valley while welding, and another person ignited a wildfire while illegally burning trash on the west side of Prescott Valley near Highway 69.

Residents of Black Canyon City first noticed the small tents on the new Heritage Park grounds this past week. Then they saw a group of people in the Agua Fria River next to the park cutting, trimming, and planting. What was going on? "What is going on," said Bob Cothern BCC Community Association president "is the first stage of the Heritage Park development."
The Friends of the Library raised $860 during the National Library Appreciation Week celebration this past week to help pay for the Cordes Lakes Library's summer reading program. They choose "Come Together at the Library" as their theme and invited the community to join with various activities, refreshments, games, and live music culminating in a raffle on Friday.

Sarah Michelle Getto's inspiring performance was the highlight of the the 6th annual fund-raiser for the Black Canyon City Community Library April 12.More than 60 people enjoyed the performance and games, which included 3-legged sack races and water balloons, at High Desert Park.
Mayer Fire responded on a two-vehicle accident at Central and Highway 69 at 3:21 p.m. today. Engine 22, Rescue 21 and Car 201 responded with DPS, YCSO and ADOT. Crews found a maroon sedan in the middle of the northbound lanes with an adult woman with minor injuries and a full size SUV on the access road with an adult male with no injuries.
The Bradshaw Mountain Shrine Club is hosting its 10th annual golf tournament May 3 at the Prescott Golf and Country Club.Fred Boehm, golf tournament chairman, said the club is seeking sponsors and golfers for the tournament. "Last year we raised $16,000 from the tournament and hope to raise $20,000 this year," he said.
Vicki Elkins will officially hand over the job of superintendent of the Canon Elementary School District to Ron Hennings on July 1. Elkins began her career at Canon School teaching seventh grade overall and eighth grade science classes. Elkins also was head teacher at the Canon middle school and tackled the superintendent position in 2003.
