A raffle will benefit 8-year-old Ryan Hadley, who's battling cancer, and the raffle winner will receive 50 T-shirts with a logo printed on them.The Rotary Club of Chino Valley is selling the raffle tickets now for the drawing that will be on May 29 and the club will contact the winner by phone. Cost of each ticket is $100 and all of it will go to Ryan and his family to help with expenses related to his treatment.

The Chino Valley Head Start will be working with Chino Valley Unified School District to promote their 7th Annual Kindergarten Transition Fair. The fair will be held in the Territorial Elementary School Cafeteria on May 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Early kindergarten registration for the 08/09 school year will begin on May 1, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., at both Del Rio and Territorial elementary schools and will run through May 23. A letter in this past week's Review about the Windmill Farms proposed projects contained some factual errors and other facts need clarification. The correct number of apartments the project is planning is 75, the project scratched the hotel idea already, plans include no convenience market and owners do not consider the restaurant "full service," as the letter states; the restaurant is open Monday through Friday, 4-8 p.m., is a buffet and usual gets about 20 customers a night, a little more on Fridays.

Editor: Sadly Chino Valley has lost a notable landmark. For a long time I have used the ugly red Lucy's Bar at the corner of Highway 89 and Road 4 North as a place to look for when giving directions to my house. I have to change my description now; Lucy's has been painted and looks great.
Editor: About the letter on a single-payer health plan - capital enterprise health plans are in it first for a profit for shareholders, then for paying CEOs, and for health care last. In all my years it is the little person who takes a hit to keep the profits. A million die a year because of little or no health insurance.
Editor: After reading the letter that Neil House wrote in the April 2 edition of the Chino Valley Review, we need a public audit to see where the money is being spent.
Editor:On April 17, 2008 I watched the Chino Valley Planning and Zoning Commission program on Channel 13. The subject had to do with developing Windmill Farms. The meeting started in a very professional manner, but very shortly it digressed into a free-for-all. I was shocked and appalled to see citizens of Chino Valley become an unruly mob.

I would venture to say that most decision-making in life is driven by fear. Or, maybe it's just me. Phobias as well as the standard concerns of failure, humiliation, illness, skin eruptions or losing one's place in line tend to be powerful motivators in our day to day decision-making processes.
It seems simple enough. When a family encounters financial problems, it has to set priorities, and some expenditures are out of the picture - at least for a while. The family may forego a driving vacation it planned, it might pass on some of the more expensive items at the grocery store or it may turn to books or video rentals for entertainment instead of movies and live concerts.

Herman Ebbens Presents "The Surprise Singers" for a dinner theater show and dance at CASA from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, April 25. There will be a gourmet dinner, entertainment, dancing and a raffle. Admission is $10 per person.
A giant stuffed bird and a "fairy god-teacher" showed up at Liberty Traditional School on Monday, April 7, to take part in the school's First Annual AIMS Test Academic Pep Rally. Principal Michael DeRois said the pep rally's purpose was to get the students in a positive frame of mind and ready to tackle AIMS testing which began the next day.
At past DARE Day celebrations only a few students from each class participated in a fun day - usually at a Phoenix amusement park. This year, Prescott Valley Police Det. Jennifer Miller arranged for all fifth grade students at Granville Elementary School to have a fun day at Freedom Station.
Dewey-Humboldt residents can rest a little easier knowing that the control over town finances are now in good hands - many hands, as it turns out. Auditors of the 2006-2007 fiscal year financial statements found several areas of concern that new Town Manager William Emerson is already correcting. Most stem from the fact that the town has a small staff which limited the separation of duties.
Bradshaw Mountain Middle School math and science team placed first in the state at the Second Annual Math and Science Olympics at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Competing against 10 middle school teams from across the state in physics, engineering, robotics, mathematics and aeronautics, the BMMS team of five eighth graders also placed first in space physics and mathematics, second in robotics, third in the air race, and fourth in engineering, which gave them the overall first place finish.
Calling the recent assault with a metal folding chair an "eye-opening situation," an Achieve Academy parent wants more information and improvements in the school.
Prescott Valley has won the global "Water Deal of the Year with Distinction," which means second place, according to Town Manager Larry Tarkowski. Tarkowski is in London to speak at the Global Water Intelligence magazine's "Water, Finance and Sustainability 2008." He has John Munderloh, Prescott Valley's water resources manager, with him as his technical person.
Allan Hall's steps slowed as the two wire rods he held in his hands crossed at chest level indicating the remains of a male body. Hall is a grave dowser with the Arizona Pioneer Cemetery Research Project, and has been instrumental in locating gravesites in several old mining camps and towns in Arizona. Hall offered to come out and dowse a possible burial ground along Highway 69 while he was in town this past weekend.
