Motorcycle accident sends woman to hospital
A single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Highway 89A severely injured the vehicle's female passenger on Sunday afternoon.
"We received the call that a motorcycle went down at 1:53 p.m.," said Sgt. William Duff, Department of Public Safety. "The (Central Yavapai Fire District) was on-scene at 2:01, and the southbound lanes were blocked to one lane right after that."
Gary Cordes, Battalion Chief with the Central Yavapai Fire District said the accident occurred approximately a half of a mile west of Mingus Estates on 89A, in Prescott Valley. Cordes said that there were two people on the motorcycle that crashed, a driver who suffered minor injuries and a female passenger whose injuries were severe.
"A helicopter flew her down to a Phoenix hospital for treatment," Cordes said. "Those two, on the bike that went down, were with a larger group of bikers at the time, but it was a single-vehicle accident. They were wearing helmets, which was a big plus for them."
Cordes said that officials limited southbound traffic to one lane for approximately one hour. Information on the cause of the accident was unavailable at press time.
