PRESCOTT VALLEY - A 55-year-old Flagstaff man suffered severe head injuries Saturday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding crashed and caught fire on Robert Road and Highway 89A, Central Yavapai Fire District Capt. Norm Rorick said.
A Native Air helicopter flew the victim to John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital in Phoenix following a short stop at Yavapai Regional Medical Center East in Prescott Valley.
"I do know that the motorcycle he was riding was on fire when our personnel arrived on scene," Rorick said. "I heard his riding companions say they pulled him out of the fire, but it didn't appear that he was burned. I didn't see any evidence that he was burned.
"They pulled him away from the fire prior to fire units arriving on scene."
Two fire units from Central Yavapai Fire District joined Prescott Valley police, LifeLine Ambulance and Native Air shortly after CYFD received a dispatch call about the accident at 1:22 p.m. Saturday.
