Bennett Oil opens station with alternative fuel in CV

A new gas station in Chino Valley is offering owners of alternative fuel vehicles another option.

Bennett Oil recently opened a new station offering bio-diesel and E-85 fuels to motorists.

Lenora Nelson, president of the oil company, said the opening of the station marks the realization of a plan drafted more than a year ago.

"It was something that we had talked about before the fire," she said. "It's exciting for us in terms of what it offers the community."

The station features 16 fueling positions with options including ultra-low diesel and regular unleaded gasoline.

Nelson said she plans to have the E-85 fuel available at the Prescott station on Sheldon Street by the end of the year.

And Neslon takes some pride in having the only gas station in the tri-city are to offer E-85 fuel.

The fuel is a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent ordinary unleaded gasoline.

"We feel like we're on top of things and able to provide it to a community that needs to be on top of things," she said. "There's a lot of interest in it (E-85) right now."

Brad Nelson, who is Lenora's husband and operations manager for the company, said E-85 fuel costs about 30 cents less a gallon than regular unleaded and the bio-diesel is about 15 cents higher than the ultra-low sulfur diesel.

The City of Prescott and the Town of Prescott Valley do not have any alternative fuel vehicles in their fleets.

Ken Stanton, operations manager for the town and Charlie Potts, fleet superintendent for the city, said one of the issues is the lack of fueling options for those vehicles in the area.

Stanton and Potts said as those options improve, the city and the town might consider adding those vehicles to their fleets in the future.

The station in Chino Valley is located at 900 E. Road 4 North.
