PRESCOTT - Officials with the National Weather Service on Saturday reported the Prescott area received below-average precipitation in August. Prescott, which gets an average of 3.27 inches of rain during the monsoon month based on the weather service's historical 109-year outlook, registered just 1.78 inches this time.
The National Weather Service uses daily precipitation figures it obtains from a measuring site on the northeast side of Prescott to determine the monthly total.
Prescott received the most rain of the month on Aug. 4, when the city picked up .42 of an inch. During Aug. 5-13 and Aug. 18-26, a pair of nine-day stretches, Prescott did not get any rainfall.
