Police Report: ICE and YCSO to send delegation to authority training

In the last year, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has deported nearly 400 illegal immigrants. Of those, 313 were criminal aliens; YSCO arrested 20 because of two warrant sweeps with ICE and 65 were the result of traffic stops throughout Yavapai County.

Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh recently announced a training and cooperative effort with Immigration and Customs Enforcement after nearly a year of working with ICE officials on local immigration issues.

"This initiates the process of establishing a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, ICE and the YCSO that will define arrest, custody and transportation guidelines for both agencies," Waugh said.

Additionally, Waugh said that the YCSO, along with the Phoenix Police Department and Pima County Sheriff's Department, are the only agencies in Arizona that will have this training and cooperative effort in 2008. This will help YCSO to meet the ongoing challenge of illegal immigration within Yavapai County.
