Joan (Hall) VallelyJoan (Hall) Vallely passed away May 7, 2007, in Prescott. She was born toLoys and Louise Wheeler on January 15, 1929, in Prescott where her father had a homestead claim in Groom Creek. Orphaned at an early age, Joan was raised by Mattie Blanton and her family in their boarding house on GroveAvenue in Prescott. Matt Hall, a miner and veteran peace officer, who resided at the Blanton home as a boarder, adopted Joan when she was four years old so that he could provide for her financial support. He preceded herin death in 1939.Joan attended St. Joseph's Academy and Prescott public schools and graduated from Prescott High School in 1947. She was employed byMountain Bell Telephone Company for 29 years as a telephone operator before retiring in 1984.Joan and Bill Vallely married in 1952 and they celebrated 52 years together until Bill passed away in 2004. She dearly loved him and her family and considered them her greatest treasure in life,Joan is survived by six children, Hugh Vallely of Van Vleck, Texas, Bill Vallely (Nancy) of Prescott Valley, Tim Vallely (Pam), Carol McFadden (George), Terry Vallely (Kathy) and Sue Beyea (Bob) of Prescott; as wellas 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.A Rosary will be said at Sacred Heart Church at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007.Funeral services will be at Sacred Heart Church 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007.In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Prescott Education Foundation, Athletic Department Fund/PHS Hall of Fame, 125 N. She had been a resident of Prescott for the past 61 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lady's of the Moose Lodge in Prescott, Arizona.Survivors include two sons, John and his wife Shirlee Blount of Flagstaff, Arizona, Bill Blount of Prescott, Arizona; one brother, Robert Binnie of New York City, New York; six grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2007, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hampton Funeral Home.Private committal will be at the family plot in the Mountain View Cemetery.The family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice in memory of Jessie Blount.Hampton Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.(Information provided by survivors.)Maggie Edith Hood GiertzMaggie Edith Hood Giertz, passed away May 7, 2007, in Prescott, Arizona.Maggie was born to Cyrus Eugene Hood and Ada Jane Bankston on March 22, 1921, in Jack, Mississippi.She was preceded in death by her spouse, Herman Curtis Giertz; sons, Preston Eugene Turnage and Steve Giertz.Maggie is survived by sons, John A. Turnage (Anita), Larry Giertz (Jane); daughter, Kay Romney (David); 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the LDS Church, 1001 N. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on September 7, 1929, to Arthur and Jen Force and grew up in Somerville, New Jersey.She graduated from Skidmore College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.Petey married George Schuler in October 1951 and they moved to Pleasantville, New York where their four children were born.The family moved to Arizona in 1959. Petey was employed as a nurse in Ray, Kearney, Tucson, Green Valley and Prescott, Arizona.She is survived by her husband, George; and four children, Ken, Jean, Dale and Nancy; and by five grandchildren, Heather, Sandy, Dan, Michael and Jill.A private family service will take place at a later date.(Information provided by survivors.)Carla Rae Thomas, 46, of Paulden, Arizona, born June 17, 1960, in Minneapolis, Minn., passed away May 4, 2007, in Prescott, Arizona.Visitation is 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at Chino Valley Funeral Home.
