Hotel heiress getting what she deserves
Jail is the best place for hotel heiress Paris Hilton
if she is as spoiled, insufferably stupid, irresponsible and arrogant as her behavior of the past few days hints
that she is.
This past February, police pulled her over for driving 70 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. At the time she had no driver's license because the court had suspended it for a previous drunk driving arrest for which she was
still on probation.
Because it represented the second time police caught her driving with a suspended license and because she was late to her own hearing, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer sentenced her to 45 days in jail, which exhibited admirable restraint in light of her conduct.
Like the late, lamented Anna Nicole Smith, the 26-year-old hotel heiress is a celebrity largely because of her good looks. She catapulted past simple spoiled heiress status when an explicit 2003 tape of her having sex made it onto the Internet.
Since then she has starred in "The Simple Life," a reality series that put her and Nicole Ritchie in situations the rest of us cope with every day and made fun of how clueless their spoiled backgrounds have left them about how real working people live.
Now Hilton has the temerity to complain that Judge Sauer's sentence is too cruel and harsh. Apparently the rest of us are supposed to put up with the danger she represents on the road, because she is who she is.
She even has started a petition drive to Gov. Arnold Schwarzennegger to grant her a pardon.
Please, governor, ignore her. Perhaps 45 days in jail, even in one of the "Club Med" ones reserved for cele-
brities, might teach her some basic humility and good citizenship.
