Obituary: Susan Carter Jackson

June 14, 1939 - July 29, 2007

Susan was born to Ellis and Mary Jackson in Columbus, Ohio. She was 68 years old. Susan moved to Tucson, Ariz., with her family at the age of six in 1945.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Marylu Jackson Born and Gene Jackson Born; brother Jack Jackson; and nephews Bill Born and Bob Born.

She is survived by her brother Joe Jackson and his wife Jane; nephew Jeff Jackson; niece Jenny Jackson Andes and husband Brad and their sons, Matthew and Tyler Andes.

Susan received a B.A. degree with distinction and a M.A. degree from the University of Arizona in drama and speech. Her career and her lifelong love was the theater, drama and the arts. She taught at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine and Pasadena Playhouse in California. She started a drama department at Prescott College when it was located where Embry-Riddle is today. She traveled extensively with American Field Service, situating foreign students in the United States and monitoring them and escorting them from and to Europe.

Selflessly, she took 13 years out of out of the middle of her career to care for her mother who had a stroke. Later she moved to Prescott where she was executive director of Prescott Fine Arts, a position she held for about six years. The experience and wonderful relationships she had there were priceless and those friendships remained strong until the end.

Arrangements will be handled by Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home. Cremation will occur, but no service is scheduled. Later there will be a memorial service which will be announced. Susan's ashes will reside in the columbarium at St. Phillips in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, Arizona.
