Mongolian BBQ: An easy dish for a lot of people
Mongolian barbecue is a simple, healthy meal that a person can whip up in a flash for a large number of guests. All you need is a wok, basic ingredients, and a barbecue or a stove top, according to local cooking teacher Jenny Cobb.
"There was a Mongolian barbecue restaurant just outside our American compound in Taichung," she said. "After we selected our meats, vegetables, and seasonings, the chef would cook it quickly on a hot wooden plank - a drum set over hot stones. Depending on your individual tastes, have a variety of meats, seafood, vegetables and seasonings to select from."
Mongolian barbecue is at least 3,000 years old, Cobb said. She noted that the recipe below is "anglocized" in comparison to recipes from Taiwan.
The recipe is a low-fat recipe that only requires a dash of oil as a seasoning, and a very short cooking time, Cobb said.
