Man faces charge for taping child's mouth shut

BAGDAD - A 26-year-old Bagdad man faces a felony count of intentional child abuse after, police say, he handcuffed and duct-taped his 6-year-old stepdaughter's mouth because she wouldn't stop crying on Wednesday.

Timothy Albert Hansen was in charge of his four stepchildren, ages 8, 6, 4 and 3, while the children's mother went out for the afternoon with her brother, a Yavapai County Sheriff's Office report says.

At 5 p.m., he woke up the 6-year-old for supper and she began crying and screaming. When she would not stop, he handcuffed her and placed a duct tape over her mouth.

A witness told a deputy that she was afraid to intervene because she feared Hansen due to his prior actions.

The witness said Hansen left the child in handcuffs and duct tape for 10 to 15 minutes.

The girl had minor injuries around her wrists.
