Child of the Week: July 6, 2007
Child of the Week is a regular feature in The Daily Courier in cooperation with Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters, which provided the information about this week's "Little." BBBS presently has hundreds of children waiting for adults to step forward and be mentors.
Jason is one of the hundreds of boys waiting for a Big Brother or Big Family to help him reach his potential. Jason has been waiting for more than 19 months for a match.
"I love swimming!" said 14-year-old Jason, who is planning to also play football, wrestling and baseball; he'd like to learn golf, too.
He'd like a Big Brother who can come to his games and give him some pointers. On his own, Jason likes reading, especially science fiction. Accordingly, his favorite movies are the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings series.
Jason has a younger sister and two younger brothers, so having a grown-up man to give him undivided attention would put him in heaven. His mom says she'd like him to have a chance to bond with his Big, to go places and start "to open up and build confidence - because he's kinda shy." She also says, "He's a really good kid; I don't have problems with him at all. And he tries hard in school. But I know he misses having a man around."
Enthusiastic about sports, interested in learning, eager to build a friendship with a Big Brother, Jason is ready for fun, and waiting ... waiting ... waiting. Call Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters today and you can be the difference that matters for a boy such as Jason. For more information or to volunteer, call BBBS at 778-5135.
