PRESCOTT VALLEY- ‹ A Phoenix-based developer is continuing construction of two affordable-housing apartment complexes here.
The 72-unit second phase of the Valley View Apartments on 5 acres off Windsong and Lakeshore drives is about half done and is due for com-pletion early next year, said Bill Spreitzer, president of WESCAP Investments Inc., the developer.
WESCAP gained approval Jan. 11 from the Town Council for the final development plan for an additional 72 units in Phase III of Valley View Apartments.
"This has been an outstanding project," Gwen Rowitsch, the town's development assistance coordinator, told the council regarding the apartment complex.
Construction on the third phase, which covers 6 acres, is scheduled to begin in April and will take a year to complete, Spreitzer said.
Spreitzer said his company is also building the 64-unit Sungate Villa Senior Community on 5 acres off Loos Drive near the Prescott Valley Civic Center. Sungate will be completed early next year.
Sungate will be rented for households in which at least one tenant is 62 or older, Spreitzer said. Valley View, however, is open to all age groups.
Sungate will have one- and two-bedroom units, while phases 2 and 3 of Valley View will offer one- to three-bedroom units, he said. WESCAP opened Valley View in December 2004 with a waiting list.
WESCAP is accepting applications for Sungate, Spreitzer said. Would-be tenants at any of the apartment complexes must meet Arizona Department of Housing requirements of household incomes with a maximum of 60 percent of the median income in the vicinity.
Sixty percent of the median household income for a family of four in the Prescott area is $28,980 a year, according to Richard Stone Jr., public affairs coordinator for the Arizona Department of Real Estate.
