Voters must be registered Democrats or Republicans during primary

Arizona's Presidential Preference Election is Feb. 5.

Unlike other primary elections, the presidential preference is not an open election in which voters registered as Independents or other non-partisan parties can request a Democratic or Republican ballot.

Anyone voting in the Presidential Preference Election must be a registered Democrat or Republican.

Voters not registered in one of the two parties participating in the election have until Jan. 7 to change their affiliation if they want to vote.

Yavapai County Elections Director Lynn Constabile said voters may change their party affiliation at the election department or pick up forms at post offices, libraries or Chambers of Commerce.

She said anyone wanting to change their registration online should follow the links on the county's website at

The county voter registration office is in the Administration Services Building at 1015 Fair St. in Prescott.
