Early Monday accident closes highway, kills 1
PAULDEN - One person died in a two-vehicle crash that closed Highway 89 at milepost 337 Monday morning, Department of Public Safety officials said.
DPS closed Highway 89 between Paulden and the railroad tracks from 7 to 11 a.m.
The accident report states that Gasper Hinojoza-Mendoza, 29, Paulden, was not wearing his seatbelt when his green 1990 Subaru crossed the centerline and struck Dustin Miller's 1995 Toyota pickup truck head on, officials said. Rescue crews pronounced Hinojoza-Mendoza dead at the scene.
Jack Miller, Chino Valley Fire Battalion Chief, said medical responders took Miller, 20, of Chino Valley, to Yavapai Regional Medical Center with minor facial injuries and a possible foot injury.
DPS officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
