An alert fire crew driving by Ron's Market in Black Canyon City around 6 p.m. Dec. 13 noticed smoke coming from behind the store. The firefighters asked the store staff what they were burning and no one was aware of anything burning.

The firefighters went behind the store to investigate and found a travel trailer ablaze less than 10 feet from the building. They immediately notified fire dispatch of the fire and additional crews and equipment was dispatched.

Firefighters brought the fire under control in a short period of time without any damage to Ron's Market.

An employee of the market has been living in the trailer for some time. The cause of the fire was unknown as of press time.

"It was just luck our crew was driving by," BCFD Chief Tom Birch, said. "In spite of the heavy smoke no calls had been made to 911 about a possible fire. Without our quick response there would have been a significant chance the fire would have extended to Ron's Market."
