Officers from the Department of Public Safety investigated a two vehicle collision involving one fatality on Tuesday, December 11.
Officers responded to an accident at approximately 3:34 p.m. on State Route 69 northbound at milepost 266, which is near Spring Valley.
At the time of the accident there was heavy hail and, for an unknown reason, a 2001 Nissan sedan crossed through the median and struck a 2005 Honda sedan head on.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan were admitted to John C Lincoln North in Phoenix, where the passenger was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The driver remains in serious condition.
The driver of the Honda was admitted to St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix and remains in serious condition. It is unknown if the driver of the Honda was utilizing his safety belt. The driver of the Nissan was using his safety belt, but the passenger was not.
The Department of Public Safety is not releasing any names at this time, pending next of kin notification. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
