Letter: Sales taxes affect all economic levels

In the Dec. 1 editorial about campaign facts it claims the top income taxpayers pay the most taxes. They failed to tell you that the low-income people pay the same taxes on sales tax, gas tax, property tax, car tax, the list goes on. Also low-income people don't make enough for tax write offs like the high-income people can and do.

Our government spends billions on foreign aid. We should be able to help our own people. A lot of low income people are not always low income by choice. I am not for giving welfare to able-bodied people, but some can't help themselves like our disabled veterans, the old and the little ones.

Our local government will give millions of dollars to the richest corporations to locate in Prescott. That money is sales tax money that the low-income people also pay. Low-income people pay a bigger percentage of their income in sales tax than high-income people.

If the person writing the editorial wants to get the facts out, he should get all of the facts.
