Deputies arrest Mayer student after bomb threat

Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies investigated a bomb threat at Mayer High School Thursday afternoon and arrested a 15-year-old student on felony charges of disruption of an educational facility and formulating a hoax.

The school was in lockdown because the juvenile said he had a bomb in his backpack and he planned to "detonate the school."

The juvenile had a "hit list" and behaved menacingly Thursday morning, actually showing the "bomb" to some students before putting it in his backpack in one of the classrooms, according to reports.

Police called the DPS bomb squad from Flagstaff and after evacuating the building where they found the backpack, the team destroyed the device, which turned out not to be an explosive.

Deputies took the student to the Juvenile Detention Center.
