Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men in connection with a string of burglaries and the theft of copper wire in the Dewey-Humboldt area.
Steven Dale Johnston, 43, of Camp Verde faces charges of second-degree burglary, four counts of third degree burglary, six counts of theft, two counts of vehicle theft and four counts of vandalism.
Donald Robert Broa Jr., 48, of Glendale faces charges of vandalism, third-degree burglary and four counts of theft.
Deputies arrested Johnston on Aug. 10, when owners of the AAA Xtra Space storage units in Cordes Junction reported a burglary to an APS truck on the grounds, according to a press release from the YCSO. Deputies found Johnston asleep in his vehicle behind the storage yard and gathered evidence at the scene that connected Johnston with the burglary.
Johnston confessed to that burglary as well as to a burglary at MDI Rock in which property damage and the theft of tools and copper wire totaled several thousand dollars. Johnston implicated Broa as a participant of the MDI burglary, and the detectives' subsequent investigation led to Broa's arrest, the YCSO said.
Deputies searched a storage unit leased to Johnston and discovered tools and a quad vehicle reportedly stolen from the Phoenix area. Detectives later determined that Johnston was also responsible for a July 19 burglary at WJ Lang Construction in Dewey-Humboldt, as well as a burglary and theft from a residence in Dewey-Humboldt.
Deputies have linked Johnston to four or five similar burglaries.
